Philly Farm and Food Fest

Saturday, April 15, 2017

The Philly Farm and Food Fest, in its 7th year, was held at the Philadelphia Convention Center last weekend.  We’ve gone since the first year it was made available to the general public, and still find new producers we were unaware of.  The Fest has grown exponentially over the years, attracting crowds who might never have had any idea of the enormous variety of foods produced locally.  Workshops and classes on seed starting, fermentation, canning and sausage making, just to name a few, offer novices and veterans alike the skills to take their love of local food further.  And there’s ever so much wonderful cheese to taste, by the way.  You’ll never buy a supermarket brand again.

Our new find this year?  Breakaway Farms in nearby Lancaster brought a selection of their cured meats, sliced fresh to order.  We took home a very good prosciutto, among the better of the local varieties we’ve tried.
