OLS: New England/Int’l Week 7

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

It seems here in New England our gardens are beginning to yield a beautiful harvest and the farmers’ markets are brimming with fresh local produce and fruits.  We’re midway through this challenge and really cookin’ now!

Well here’s what New England has cooked up this week!

England

Sally at Diario is sick again this week.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Vermont

Annika from Northeast Kingdom Localvores made a meal with almost all ingredients coming from within her own county!  She made a sausage-and-veggie frittata, with steamed beets, carrots, and beet greens.

Massachusetts

Laurie at Nelson Grove cooked up a meal with friends which included fresh seafood, salad, a Mexican inspired salad and a vegetable pie, of sorts.  Be sure to visit her blog for all the info.

Connecticut

Sophie at Late Bloomers Farm enjoyed a simple meal of oven-roasted chicken and pink potatoes.  I don’t think I’ve ever heard of pink potatoes, have you?

Mangochild at Living in a Local Zone tried something different by making a chilled yellow squash soup with a side of fresh bread and local peaches.

New Hampshire

This week I (at Living the Local Life) made a tasty summer pizza with fresh veggies and bison sausage.

Kristin at The Family Kitchen also enjoyed pizzas.  She grilled her crust and used a variety of toppings to create a few different pizzas.

Amy at What Did She Do Today? was busy hatching chicks this week so she stuck to a simple local meal of elk sausage and scrambled eggs with a side of sauteed summer squash and zucchini.

Colleen   at Penny-Wise People made beef crumble burgers topped with local cheese (see her blog for the story behind beef crumble burgers) with a tasty veggie medley side dish.

(If I missed you, please let me know!)

Support a local farmer, crave the freshest produce, worry about what's in or on your food - whatever your reason for eating locally grown and produced food in the Philadelphia area, Farm to Philly is probably writing about it. We're focused on where to find it, how to grow it, and what to do with it!
