Spring supper

A lovely spring supper with new potatoes, salmon on a bed of local spinach, and New Jersey asparagus.  M and I have been sick, and sad that we haven’t cooked as much local stuff lately, so this asparagus was a treat.  (I’ll be posting soon about what’s left in our freezer, Emily!)

We got our first CSA box on Monday, which was a joyful occasion.  We’ve eaten some of the mushrooms, Asian greens, scallions, lettuce, and spinach.  Left is a bag of baby spring greens and a couple of things I’m forgetting.  I ate all the radishes standing over the sink as I washed them (M’s not a big fan), which was a zingy, wet, crisp delight!

Wow, a CSA share already? I’m envious! Our Landisdale Farm CSA doesn’t begin until June and I’m about to resort to California-grown I want strawberries so badly. Which farm is your CSA from?

Seriously, I’m with Emily! I’m totally jealous - I have to wait until June, too!

Hey, will you be doing a weekly report on what’s in your CSA box this year?  I hope so…we need to live vicariously through you! *grin*

I had no idea the other CSAs hadn’t started yet—didn’t mean to rub everyone’s noses in it!

We belong to the Lancaster Farm Fresh Cooperative, which is a bunch of Amish farmers led by the farmers (Henry and Saloma Stoltzfus) who used to be big in the Farm to City program.  When they split off from FTC, we stuck with the farmers, who were busy forming this cooperative of other Amish folks.  We’ve been very pleased with our boxes, and with the communication by their intermediary.

We actually get one full share, and then a share every other week (my parents take the other half).  Every other Monday we have two full boxes to deal with!

p.s. don’t succumb to the CA strawberry!!  Willow Creek will be picking in a couple of weeks!!!  Hold out!!  Be strong!!!  smile

I was with Lancaster Farm Fresh last year - but I don’t remember them starting this early!  Good on you!

I know this is extremely belated, but I did want to clarify—LFF hasn’t exactly ‘split off from Farm to City’.  We do still find a certain number of CSA members for them and coordinate several urban dropsites…  (However, you’re right that the cooperative finds most of its CSA members itself now.)
