Local Vino Steps Up…

...says this article in today’s Inquirer.  I’m still searching for some go-to wines from the region.  Any favorites that are must tries?

Chaddsford’s 2005 “Due Rossi” is the best of the local wines I’ve tried.  It’s 63% Barbera and 37% Sangiovese.  Sadly, the PLCB stores don’t carry it.  But you can buy it on Chaddsford’s website ($29.99) and/or try a glass of it at Ristorante Panorama ($6.25 3oz/$9.25 5oz).

Chaddsford’s 2005 Proprietors Reserve (made with the Chambourcin grape) is easier to find but not as exciting as the Due Rossi.  Most PLCB stores have the Proprieters Reserve, and it goes for $10.99.  You can also find it by the glass at Dock Street ($6).

Finally, Stargazer’s produces a varietally correct Cabernet Franc that’s worth a taste.  However, one of the owners of Stargazer told me the PLCB dropped their entire portfolio about a year or so ago due to poor sales.  You can find the Cab Franc at the Stargazer stand at Headhouse Market and by the glass at Dock Street ($7).

Thanks for the ideas! There’s actually a Chaddsford shop in the Montgomery Mall which is not far from me.  I’m sure I’ll have to step foot inside the mall at some point during the holiday season despite my best efforts to avoid it, so I’ll be sure to stop in armed with these suggestions.
